New in the journal Nature-Climate and Atmospheric Science is a study (h/t Fritz Vahrenholt and NoTricksZone) making a projection we wouldn’t have expected climate models to produce or for a Nature group journal to publish: the world’s climate system is gearing up for a few decades of colder Northern Hemisphere winters, greenhouse gases notwithstanding. The authors argue that our climate system can be thought of as a set of large-scale slow-moving cyclical mechanisms that interact with each other through their effects on the oceans, sea ice, and other major components of the climate system. Every so often the cycles line up in such a way that the North Atlantic starts cooling, taking wintertime global temperatures down with it. It happened during the 1950s-1980s interval and it’s started again. Between now and 2050 you might need a sweater.

The latest scientific studies show Europe’s temperature will drop slightly for the next 15-20 years. This is due to a weakening of the North Atlantic Oscillation and a cooling of the North Atlantic. The next warming phase will begin in about 2050.  This natural cycle has nothing to do with CO2.  As Professor Fritz Vahrenholt explains, global warming is going to pause as the North Atlantic cools.

Why is the coming cooling in Europe not being reported in corporate media?

More and more people are talking about it as the inevitable North Atlantic cooling it right around the corner.

This meshes perfectly with a forecast discussion I was part of today.  The stratosphere is cooling rapidly and its pulling heat from the troposphere at an alarming rate.  This is what is causing the re-emergence of the polar generated ocean depressions that were prevalent during the 1930's and late 1960's when we had monster winter storms and very cold temps. 

With ocean heat uptake almost nill, there is no revisor of energy to keep the planet warm.  The changes in our atmosphere are unmistakable..
