Trump or DeSantis in 2024?

Former President Donald Trump outperformed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ® in hypothetical 2024 presidential matchups against President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, A new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll found.

In a potential rematch against Biden, Trump is up two points at 44 percent, compared to Biden’s 42 percent. Despite some Republicans’ calls for DeSantis to primary Trump, the Harvard poll found that DeSantis is tied with Biden at 43 percent.

That's not bad for DeSantis, since he is merely the governor of a state, while Biden is president of the country! The main political problem with Trump is that so many people hate him so virulently.

There are two completely different questions to ask about Trump:

(1) Abstracting away from elections, is he a fit person to be President?  I would say, 'No', just as I would to the question of whether Hershel Walker in Georgia is a fit person to be Senator.

(2) Given the reality that we have elections, should we support him (or Walker) anyway? 

My position is that a bad Republican, in today's circumstances, is better than a good Democrat. 

We're in a cold civil war, and in war, you go to war with the army you've got. 
We've already got Walker, unfortunately, so we should back him.

As for Trump vs DeSantis, that's a very interesting poll -- it contradicts what I would have thought.

So if, between Trump and DeSantis, Trump can beat the Democrat and DeSantis can't, I would support Trump. 

However, as we know, polls are not always accurate. We'll have to see closer to the time.

I stand by what I have always said: Trump won in 2020, of that there is no doubt. He deserves our support for getting back that which was stolen from him. DeSantis is young and he will have his day in the White House, but first, justice for Trump. I want Trump to serve the second term that he EARNED. 

And let us not forget that Trump EARNED that second term with deeds, doing things that previous Republican presidents promised but never delivered on.

Let me throw in my 2 cents.  

DeSantis will not run for POTUS.  He is making inroads with minorities very well and he needs a few more years to cement that into his platform.

Cruz has a solid base. He also has legal training in and around SCOTUS.  He is damn smart but lacks the business background that will be needed to put this nation back together.

Trump has the proven track record of putting the nation on the right track.  He is crass and picks fights sometimes that he doesn't need to get into.  Trump hates politically correct speech as it stops you from saying things that must be said.  This is taken as being uncaring and crass. Trump exposed the problem with PC speech and why it is a threat to our republic.  Being offended is not a crime, it is a choice by the hearing person.  Blaming trump for the actions of another is pointless.  

I would love to see a Trump/Cruz ticket. Putting those two strengths together can be the ticket to beat all of the field of players.

I like the idea of a Trump-Cruz ticket. I supported Cruz in 2016. DeSantis would be wise to wait until 2028. Except then he would be competing in the primaries against whomever Trump picks for his Veep running mate in 2024.

Of course, If Cruz were Trump's choice for Veep, then it would be hard for DeSantis to compete against Cruz in 2028. I originally supported Cruz in 2016. That would be a hard choice for me--between Cruz and DeSantis.

I think De Santis will do better over Cruz because he did well in winning long held democrat counties when he won his reelection which indicates a broader appeal to voters outside of his political party.

I hate to throw a wrench in things, but Tulsi Gabbard is now looking very possible for a trump running mate...  Her independent stance on many subjects might be a very strong plus for Trump or anyone else who would run for president.  

Things are just now getting interesting.  The Get Trump klan is about to hit a brick wall.

Trump was won every straw poll by a landslide. Trump will be the nominee, that is a fact. So, if we want a Republican in the white house in 2025 we had better STOP smearing Trump today because he WILL be our candidate.

That would be the worst mistake in political history. The base will leave and he will get throttled.
